WHO: NHRA Funny Car driver, Tasca Racing
2019 RESULTS: 5th, Funny Car, 2446 points; 2 wins, 4 final round appearances
WHY HE’S ON THE LIST: 2018 represented a return for Tasca III and Ford Performance to full-time NHRA competition, as the brand that powered John Force to so many of his victories and Funny Car championships went with the veteran driver as the new face of their Mustang platform. In their second season together, Tasca delivered one of the best seasons of his career, cracking the top five in the championship and taking back-to-back wins in Bristol and Norwalk to briefly establish himself as the driver to beat in the class.
2020 will be the third season of the partnership, and after returning the Blue Oval to the winner’s circle last season, expectations are even higher for the upcoming season. Force’s two-car Chevrolet effort alongside 2019 champion Robert Hight, Don Schumacher Racing’s quartet of quick Dodges, and the Kalitta Motorsports Toyota contingent have the top of the Funny Car ladder loaded with manufacturer-backed efforts, but Tasca and company proved that it’s quality over quantity in 2019—and Ford rewarded them earlier this month with a multi-year extension in response.
