The 2018-19 AMSOIL Championship Snocross season kicks off this weekend at Spirit Mountain in Duluth, Minnesota with the AMSOIL Snocross National, the first of eight events on this year’s calendar. Spirit Mountain kicks off the season for the 27th time, most in series history, and hosts one of only two three-day events on the schedule.
Defending champion Tucker Hibbert retired in the offseason, leaving a number of other riders to fight for the 11-time champion’s place atop the standings this year. One of the favorites to succeed him is 2016-17 champion and 2017-18 runner-up Kody Kamm, who took two podiums here last year and won the $10,000 AMSOIL Dominator bracket race that kicked off the weekend.
But Kamm will face plenty of stiff competition for this year’s crown. His Hentges Racing Polaris teammate Petter Narsa, a Winter X Games gold medalist, finished fourth in last year’s standings, while fellow top five finishers Logan Christian and Lincoln Lemieux will also lead their respective teams in this year’s field. Former Pro Lite champions Daniel Benham and Aki Pihlaja will also move up to the Pro ranks this season, while Tim Tremblay returns to Warnert Racing, the team he won two national titles with earlier in his career.
The weekend kicks off for the Pro riders with the AMSOIL Dominator bracket race on Friday, followed by the opening two rounds of the championship on Saturday and Sunday. Live streaming will be available on Friday at 2:30PM ET, Saturday at noon ET, and Sunday at 11AM ET. The season will continue on December 7-8 with AMSOIL Championship Snocross’ return to Jackson Hole in Jackson, Wyoming.
