ARCA Menards Series West Recap: Bullring at Las Vegas
Sam Mayer’s coast to coast tour of the ARCA Menards Series stands at a perfect two for two after last week’s West series visit to The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Shortly after winning the East season opener at New Smyrna Speedway, in the division whose championship he intends to defend, Mayer returned GMS Racing to victory lane last Thursday while driving a tribute scheme to the late Spencer Clark.
Mayer led 138 of the race’s 150 laps to win from the pole. Jesse Love, replacing Hailie Deegan in Bill McAnally Racing’s #19 Toyota, led the other 12 laps to finish second in his West series debut. Blaine Perkins finished third in his first West start since 2017, while fellow BMR rookie Gracie Trotter and Perkins’ Sunrise Ford Racing teammate Trevor Huddleston completed the top five. Eight of the race’s 17 starters completed all 150 laps, while only four cautions slowed the race.
The visit to LVMS’ Bullring was the series’ first since 2012, replacing the round at the Dirt Track that had been a popular staple of the schedule for the past two years. It was also the first for the series since the conversion to ARCA branding in the offseason, and the first for a completely revamped driver lineup. Only five drivers in the field returned to their 2019 teams, and among them, only Huddleston and Takuma Koga weren’t driving self- or family-owned cars.
The ARCA Menards Series West returns to action on March 28 with a visit to Irwindale Speedway. However, southwest stock car fans will be able to see the premier ARCA series in action on March 6, with the General Tire 150 marking its first-ever visit to Phoenix Raceway. Last November, Ty Gibbs held off Mayer to win in the West series’ return to Phoenix for the first time in four years, while Deegan will look to improve on her fourth place run in that race in her second event with DGR-Crosley Racing.
