Jim Beaver eSports Pays Homage to NASCAR Champions at Darlington

Bill Elliott, Ted Musgrave honored with throwback paint schemes

PARKER, ARIZONA—Coming off of a strong showing at Daytona International Speedway, Jim Beaver eSports drivers Eric Smith and Michael Guariglia will take part in the time-honored tradition of honoring NASCAR’s past in the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series’ annual visit to Darlington Raceway on Tuesday night. Smith’s #9 Big Green Egg Ford will pay tribute to former NASCAR Cup Series champion and Winston Million winner Bill Elliott, while Guariglia’s #15 Polaris RZR Ford honors one of Polaris’ earliest NASCAR paint schemes with driver Ted Musgrave.

Smith’s ride is modeled after the mid-1980s Melling Racing Ford Thunderbird that Elliott drove to the Winston Million in its first year of existence in 1985, winning the Southern 500 at Darlington to clinch the first-of-its-kind prize after previous triumphs at Daytona and Talladega. Two years later, Elliott won the Daytona 500 for a second time and set NASCAR’s all-time speed record, in a car that was scanned and released by iRacing earlier this year. Finally, in 1988, Elliott scored his lone Cup championship, once again winning the Southern 500 in the process.

Guariglia’s paint scheme, meanwhile, is modeled after the 1999 Ford Taurus first campaigned by Musgrave at Darlington for owner Butch Mock. In his final full-time Cup season, both of Musgrave’s best finishes of the year came with the Polaris colors on his #75 car. Two years later, he settled into the NASCAR Truck Series with Ultra Motorsports, establishing a five-year reign of dominance that included 16 race victories and the 2005 series championship.

Both Jim Beaver eSports drivers enter Darlington after stellar results in the second superspeedway race of the year at Daytona. Guariglia set the fastest time in the warmup session and managed to spend much of the race in the top 10 even after taking late-race damage, while Smith ran up front for most of the night and fell just hundredths of a second short of taking his second career series victory.
