CHINA GROVE, NC (August 6, 2019) –– Loenbro Motorsports drivers Steve Arpin and Travis PeCoy demonstrated impressive speed at Grand Prix Trois-Rivieres, the only Canadian round of the team’s 2019 rallycross efforts. In the fourth event of this year’s Americas Rallycross season, PeCoy was the fastest driver in the second round of qualifying, while Arpin scored a victory in his semifinal to earn a front row starting spot for the main event.
“Trois-Rivieres has always been a tricky track for me, but I’m proud of the weekend that we had nonetheless,” said Arpin, the lone Canadian driver in the Supercar field. “Both Travis and I managed to pace the field at different points of the weekend, and as always, our Loenbro Motorsports crew pulled us through at the when we struggled to find speed. We’ve got the best group of people in the paddock, and I know our first win of the year is just around the corner!”
Despite placing sixth in the intermediate classification, Arpin scored a win in the second semifinal after Scott Speed’s gearbox failure, placing him on the all-important front row for the six-lap final. Arpin then showed the power of his #00 cbdMD Ford Fiesta with a strong launch to lead the field into the first turn.
PeCoy’s weekend started with a pair of strong qualifying results in the #3 Factory Canopies Ford Fiesta. He was the second-fastest driver in Qualifying 1 and bested the field in Qualifying 2, helping him earn third place in the intermediate classification and a solid 14 points. The Californian rookie then climbed from the last spot on the grid to a top-five finishing position in the main event.
“Every weekend, I get a little more comfortable in a Supercar, and Trois-Rivieres was no exception,” said PeCoy. “Winning a qualifying round is proof that we’ve got a fast combination underneath us, and we already proved this year that we can make it to the podium. Now it’s time for us to go get a checkered flag!”
Michael Leach continued his rookie rallycross campaign in the #09 American Grinders ARX2 car with a pair of final appearances in the doubleheader event. Leach posted a best qualifying result of third on Saturday on the way to a season-best fifth place finish in the final.
“Rallycross has been a big adjustment for me, but I know I’ve got amazing support behind me to find the speed to compete for wins,” said Leach. “It was cool to get to race the ARX2 car in Canada for the first time, and I’m already itching to get back behind the wheel at our next race weekend!”
The ARX points race remains tight, with Arpin just four points back of third in the championship and PeCoy only five points back of his teammate. The 2019 title chase will resume at Circuit of the Americas on September 28, a track where Loenbro Motorsports scored two podiums in two attempts last year.
For now, though, the focus shifts to Utah Motorsports Campus and August 17’s Nitro World Games, where action sports legend Ken Block will make his return to the team to partner Arpin. This year’s event will mark the debut for the Loenbro Motorsports Fiestas on the dazzling Utah course, which features banked dirt corners, a rhythm section, and a massive crossover jump.
