Adam Kimmett/Dom Adams stole a surprise victory over the weekend at Southern Ohio Forest Rally, the first Super Regional round of the 2019 American Rally Association season. Kimmett and Adams used a strong final stage to not only make up a 1.8-second deficit behind O.D.D. Racing’s Cameron Steely/Preston Osborn, but also score the event victory by an impressive 21.7 seconds. River City Rally’s Michael Hooper and Claudia Barbera-Pullen, the top 2WD crew in the event, were third overall.
A high-attrition event knocked many of the top teams out of podium contention, including the Open 4WD crews of Joseph Burke/Martin Brady, Barry McKenna/Leon Jordan, and Paulo Ferreira/Ozgur Simsek. That left Dave Wallingford/Leanne Junnila as the top Open 4WD crew remaining, and they came home fourth overall, meaning four different classes scored the top four overall positions in the rally. Blind Deer Rallysport’s Jimmy Pelizzari/Ryan Scott, veterans of the event, completed the top five.
All told, 45 of the well over 70 competitors who entered the event were scored as finishers on Saturday. Owing to its recent popularity, the Naturally Aspirated 4WD class produced the most finishers with 16, including Kimmett/Adams on top overall. For the first time, SOFR expanded to three days in 2019, with the rally-opening Super Special stage running on Thursday evening.
