Is this the year that Tanner Foust finally claims another professional rallycross title?

The Andretti Rallycross driver became the first repeat winner of the 2019 Americas Rallycross season on Saturday when he took the checkered flag at Circuit of the Americas. After Andreas Bakkerud’s Subaru muscled past him on the first lap of the final, Foust returned the favor on the Subaru Motorsports USA driver to take the checkered flag.

The win also gave Foust the points lead, inheriting the top spot from former teammate and defending series champion Scott Speed. Speed, who injured his back at Nitro World Games, was replaced by Bakkerud for the event, while Joni Wiman took the wheel of a fourth Subaru alongside regulars Patrik Sandell and Chris Atkinson.

Sandell took second place in the race to also earn second in the championship, where he sits 17 points behind Foust going into next weekend’s finale at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Thanks to a penalty to Bakkerud, Loenbro Motorsports’ Steve Arpin was elevated to third; it marked Arpin’s third podium finish of the season and gave him a trophy at COTA for the second year in a row.

DirtFish Motorsports driver Fraser McConnell continued his standout season in ARX2 with another victory on Saturday, beating Dreyer & Reinbold Racing teammates Sage Karam and Conner Martell to the checkered flag for his third win in a row. McConnell’s championship advantage over DRR’s Cole Keatts is up to 33 points heading into the Mid-Ohio finale. In ARX3, it was Texas’ own Dave Carapteyan who took the checkered flag in his series debut, beating John McInnes and Dylan Towne to the finish.

The 2019 Americas Rallycross season will wrap up on October 5-6 at Mid-Ohio, while the ARX2 Combine on October 7 will give prospective young talent a chance to sample rallycross machinery. ARX action from Circuit of the Americas will air on the CBS Sports Network this Wednesday at 9PM ET and 3:30AM ET, and Saturday at 9:30AM ET.
