Steve Arpin Returns Loenbro Motorsports to Podium at Circuit of the Americas

CHINA GROVE, NC (October 1, 2019) –– For the second year in a row, Loenbro Motorsports driver Steve Arpin found himself standing on the podium at Circuit of the Americas, as Americas Rallycross returned to the Austin, Texas-based track for the penultimate event of its 2019 season. The finish allowed Arpin to climb to fourth in the championship standings with just a single race remaining, next weekend’s return to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

“I’m absolutely stoked to be back on the podium at Circuit of the Americas!” said Arpin. “RDO Equipment is such an incredible partner to us on the oil and gas side of our business, so it was awesome to reward them and all the guests they brought to the track with a third place result. Giving our partners the best results we can is what it’s all about, and to be able to do it in back-to-back years here is phenomenal. The action was intense at COTA, and I can’t wait to end the season on a high note at Mid-Ohio!”

Both Arpin (#00 RDO Equipment Ford Fiesta) and teammate Travis PeCoy (#3 Factory Canopies Ford Fiesta) showed great pace throughout the Saturday event, although penalties during qualifying rounds to both drivers limited their intermediate points and meant they would line up together on the second row of the semifinal. With only three transfer spots available, Arpin crossed the line in third to take the final place on the grid for the six-lap main event.

While the drivers at the front of the pack beat on each other, Arpin ducked into the Joker on the first lap of the final and kept as clean as possible throughout the race to cross the line fourth. Thanks to a five-second penalty for another driver, Arpin was then elevated to third on the podium, his third podium finish of the season and fourth since joining ARX for the 2018 season.

The result allowed Arpin to gain a place in the championship standings, where he now sits fourth, and is within just seven points of second place. PeCoy, meanwhile, held onto sixth place despite missing out on the final, and is poised to break into the top five at Mid-Ohio, where both drivers stood on the podium in June’s season-opening event.

“It was tough not to be on the grid for the final this weekend, but we’re going to keep digging,” said PeCoy. “We showed we had pace and could pass cars this weekend at COTA, and we had a great start to the season with a podium at Mid-Ohio, so there’s plenty of reason to be optimistic. I’m going to shoot for the top five in overall points and see if we can get back on the box next time out!”

In ARX2, Michael Leach (#09 American Grinders ARX2) continued his rookie rallycross season with his first visit as a driver to COTA. Leach improved on his times in every qualifying session before finishing fourth in his semifinal. Now ninth in the championship standings, Leach will make his ARX2 debut at Mid-Ohio next weekend after scoring a fourth place finish in the season opener in the ARX3 class.

“I’ve learned a ton in my first rallycross season so far, and I can’t thank everybody on the team enough for giving me a fighting chance every weekend,” said Leach. “It’s going to be great to head to Mid-Ohio for the season finale and run on a track I’ve seen before, even if it was in a different vehicle. Steve, Travis, and the entire Loenbro Motorsports team have worked hard to give me great equipment, and I’m hoping to pay it off with a strong finish to the season.”

The 2019 ARX season finale at Mid-Ohio will be a busy weekend for Loenbro Motorsports. Alongside the weekend season finale for Arpin and PeCoy on the Supercar side and a doubleheader for Leach in ARX2, the team will also be part of the season-ending ARX2 Combine on Monday, October 7. There, the 2019 ARX2 champion will take part in a Supercar test supported by cbdMD and Loenbro Motorsports. Tickets for the Mid-Ohio race weekend are available now at
